Inspired by the play of the same name, Troy (lead character) was a great home run batter in the Negro Leagues, but he could never seem to catch a break outside the diamond. He got a few base hits and as soon as it looked like he was going to bring them all home, he struck out which is represented by the unsettled rhythm of this piece.
